DC03 DESIGN CONCEPT | EDGEWATER
Located in front of the bay, Edgewater takes different forms in response to its edge conditions.
As the bay is North facing, open indoor/outdoor areas accompanied with vast glazing brings the morning to mid day sun throughout the dwelling.
As the sun sets, the sturdy brick and cladding take precedent to block the warmth, which is the road facing west side.
Gesture's of movement, is shown upon entry. The occupant is greeted to a louvre cladded staircase. A similar sequence is shown in the alfresco area.
Spatial planning for Edgewater. Room allocation and arrangement was designed to cater the conditions horizontally and vertically.
Horizontal - North East Facing Rooms situated around Living areas. These areas correspond to sea side views and natural lighting. Areas migrate from liveable internal, to liveable internal/external and then completely external. (South to North)
Vertical - Each level provides a similar multifaceted spatial arrangement. Large groups of occupants have moments to subdivide their use from each level, yet join together at the same time. The Gable inspired form presented a Loft Lounge opportunity for further refuge to support the main living occupied on the second floor. There's fragmentation of space relating to human residential consumption, however more grandiose areas for connection. Circulation (red/stairs) is what ties these moments together.
Interiors for Edgewater. The interior palette aims to contrast the exterior. The exterior consists of light sturdy tones of white and grey. However the interior welcomes a black and dark grey palette. The intention is to create a juxtaposition within movement between exterior and interior.
However they share similarities, through the bronze and timber warm tones that set the décor. As mentioned before the spatial planning is utilized to capture moments that stay true to the gabled inspired form and the architectural elements that reflect it.
